George Duke died dead dies passed away Monday in Los Angeles at age 67 http://youtu.be/To6HesspXg8 Jazz, funk and R&B musician George Duke has died of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in Los Angeles, his record label Concord Music Group confirmed.
A representative for Duke said the performer died Monday night in Los Angeles. Duke was being treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Duke’s son, Rashid, thanked his father’s fans in a statement Tuesday.

“The outpouring of love and support that we have received from my father’s friends, fans and the entire music community has been overwhelming,” he said. “Thank you all for your concern, prayers and support.”

Duke was born in San Rafael, Calif. He appeared on a number of Frank Zappa albums and played in the Don Ellis Orchestra, Cannonball Adderley’s band and with jazz musician Stanley Clarke. Duke also played keyboard on Michael Jackson’s multiplatinum 1979 album, “Off the Wall.”

His wife, Corine, died from cancer last year. He was unable to make music for months, but he overcame his grief to create the album “DreamWeaver,” released last month. It features a fusion of sounds and a touching tribute to his late wife on the romantic piano-driven ballad “Missing You.”

He began taking piano lessons when he was 4 years old, after seeing Duke Ellington perform.

  1. I remember him coming to the Fox Theater in Detroit back in 2000 when I used to live there…

I had front row seats with my ex wife, and when he played Reach for it, he came into the audience and shut the music off and kept playing the keytar…

    R.I.P George Duke… You will be missed…

  2. I felt like I personally knew George Duke having followed him from the late, great Frank Zappa to jams with Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke, et al, for several decades. He was down to earth, and I believe, as many musicians have, was born with magic already in his hands. He brought me sheer joy & I'm convinced he loved Christ and made a fantastic trip to Heaven to meet Him saying "George, Welcome Home thy good & faithful servant!! Right on.

  3. I can only be thankful to God for George Duke ever being in this world in the first place! Even though he is no longer among us in life, his legacy in the World will never die! God"s speed to you Brother.
